LMAA Annual Dinner on 25 March 2025 at The Drapers’ Hall, London

London, United Kingdom - 25 March 2025

On Tuesday 25 March 2025, the Interoutes team had the honour of attending the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) Annual Dinner, held at the magnificent Drapers' Hall on Throgmorton Avenue in the City of London.

Set within one of the capital's most historic livery halls, the evening brought together arbitrators, legal practitioners, shipowners, and maritime professionals from the United Kingdom and overseas for a night of distinguished conversation, fine dining, and invaluable networking. The LMAA Annual Dinner is one of the Association's flagship social events, and attending it offered Interoutes a rare opportunity to engage with the individuals and institutions at the very heart of international maritime dispute resolution.

The London Maritime Arbitrators Association represents the world's leading group of maritime arbitrators. With over 800 full, aspiring full, and supporting members, the LMAA handles more than 2,500 cases and issues over 600 awards annually. Its arbitrators possess unrivalled expertise spanning maritime law, naval architecture, marine engineering, and shipbroking, serving the global shipping, offshore, and commodities industries.

London has long been the world's foremost centre for maritime arbitration, and the LMAA plays a central role in maintaining that position. The Association promotes practical, efficient procedures for dispute resolution and has an influential voice in major international rule making bodies. For anyone involved in the commercial and legal side of shipping, the LMAA is an institution of the highest importance.

For Interoutes, attending the LMAA Annual Dinner was far more than a social occasion, it was a direct reflection of the work we do every day.

Our Performance Evaluation and Post Voyage Analysis services are built on the legal foundations that London maritime arbitration upholds. The reports we produce follow the Good Weather Analysis methodology, as established by landmark English law precedents including The Didymi (1988), The Gas Enterprise (1993), and The Gaz Energy (2011). These reports are prepared to the rigorous standard required for use in arbitration proceedings and legal disputes, ensuring that our clients, whether shipowners or charterers, have objective, reliable evidence at their disposal.

Our Performance and Claims team has extensive experience in preparing voyage reports that are ready to be presented before maritime tribunals. This is a responsibility we take seriously, and our close connection to the legal and arbitration community in London is essential to maintaining the quality and credibility of our work.

Being present at Drapers' Hall gave our team the opportunity to engage directly with the arbitrators, barristers, solicitors, and industry figures who shape the legal landscape in which our clients operate. The conversations that took place over the course of the evening, from pre-dinner drinks through to the formal programme, offered valuable perspectives on evolving standards in maritime dispute resolution, current trends in charterparty claims, and the broader challenges facing the shipping industry.

The event was also a powerful reminder of how closely the technical and legal dimensions of shipping are intertwined. The weather routing decisions made at sea, the performance data collected during a voyage, and the analysis conducted upon arrival all feed into the legal processes that the LMAA oversees. For a company like Interoutes, where experienced captains and master mariners prepare reports that may ultimately be tested in arbitration, understanding the legal context is not optional - it is fundamental.

As a Piraeus-based company operating at the intersection of maritime operations and maritime law, Interoutes was proud to represent the Greek shipping community at this prestigious London gathering. Greece remains the world's leading shipowning nation, and Greek companies are among the most active users of London arbitration for resolving commercial disputes. Our presence at the LMAA dinner underlined the strong and enduring bond between Greek shipping and the London maritime legal community.

The LMAA Annual Dinner 2025 was an enriching and inspiring experience for the entire Interoutes team. We returned to Piraeus with strengthened relationships, deeper insight into the arbitration landscape, and a renewed commitment to producing performance evaluation reports of the highest standard - reports that serve our clients not only in day-to-day fleet management but also when the stakes are at their highest.

We look forward to continuing our engagement with the LMAA and the wider London maritime community in the years ahead.
